It’s Kind of a Funny Story demonstrates the importance of the compatibility of character and the unexpected ways people can enter our lives. A gifted high school junior, Craig, checks himself into a hospital’s psychiatric ward after considering suicide. Craig thought he would be out of the hospital by the time school started the following day. When he checked in, he did not realize the psychiatric ward must keep him under observation for a minimum of a week. Craig gets to know some of the interesting and entertaining adults and a girl around his age in the ward. While there he starts to have feelings that he did not expect. After he’s released, Craig is embarrassed for having been in a psychiatric ward and doesn’t want his friends to find out that he keeps going back.
